DEWR’s existing site wasn’t meeting the needs of all users. The interface was clunky, the site wasn’t optimised for mobile, and accessibility requirements weren’t fully met.
Key challenges included:
• Accessibility compliance
The site needed to adhere to WCAG to serve users with varying levels of digital literacy and physical ability.
• Personalised user journeys
The platform needed to guide people to the right services based on their needs and location.
• Responsive design
Many users accessed services on mobile, so the site had to work on all screen sizes.
Notitia worked with DEWR to deliver a mobile-ready, accessible site with real-time location-based filtering and a clean, intuitive design.
• Human Centred Design
The site design prioritised accessibility. Using human-centred design, Notitia built an interface that worked smoothly across all devices.
• Qlik for Local Insights
The team used Qlik Sense Mashups to recognise IP addresses and surface localised support options, so users didn’t need to manually search.
• Smart Filtering
Users can now narrow down their search by program type, provider, region, and state, guided by a “Find Site Near You” tool.
• Interactive Map
A custom-built map enhances usability, allowing users to explore services visually in their area.
The redesigned platform has delivered significant benefits to users and stakeholders alike.
• Accessible and usable
A simplified layout and WCAG compliance mean more people can confidently navigate the platform.
• Improved discovery
Dynamic filters and location-based data make finding information faster and easier.
• Mobile-first
The responsive site supports users on any device, increasing accessibility and reach.
“One of the reasons that we chose Notitia was that they really aligned with our core values. A really important part of choosing a vendor, for us, was making sure that we had someone that we could work really well with and understand what we were trying to do."
The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) is committed to equipping Australians with the tools and support needed to enter, advance, or transition in their careers. Their goal is to create safer, fairer, and more accessible employment pathways, promoting economic productivity and personal growth.
