Meet Notitia Gabriel Ianhez Pereira dos Santos: Analytics Consultant at Notitia
Notitia's newest Analytics Consultant, Gabriel Ianhez Pereira dos Santos, brings a unique blend of statistical expertise, business problem-solving and real-world life experience to the team.
Originally from Brazil, Gabe holds a degree in Statistics and Data Science and has built his career helping organisations turn complex data into meaningful insights and better decisions. After relocating to Australia, Gabe took an unexpected career detour, working his way from dishwasher to chef after discovering a passion for the fast-paced environment of professional kitchens.
Starting a family prompted a reassessment of priorities and a desire for greater work-life balance, leading Gabe back to his passion for data and analytics.
Now based in Adelaide, Gabe works closely with Notitia's clients to organise, transform and visualise data, helping organisations make better decisions through reliable reporting, automation and analytics solutions.
What is your role at Notitia?
I work as a Data & Analytics Consultant. My role involves helping clients organise and understand their data so they can make more informed decisions.
That includes creating data pipelines, preparing and transforming data, building dashboards and helping clients track key performance indicators. Ultimately, the goal is to make sure organisations have reliable information they can use to improve operations and make data-driven decisions.
Tell us a little about your career journey
I originally studied Statistics and Data Science in Brazil.
During my degree, I was awarded a scholarship from the Brazilian Government which allowed me to spend a year studying in Adelaide. After returning to Brazil and completing my degree, I joined a large digital marketing and analytics company where I worked as a Data Scientist for almost four years.
My work focused on analysing marketing performance, forecasting outcomes and helping organisations optimise their investment decisions through data.
A few years later, my wife and I decided to move to Australia permanently.
When we first arrived, I took a job as a dishwasher while we settled into life here. I ended up really enjoying the hospitality environment and worked my way through the kitchen into chef roles. Eventually, after starting a family, I realised I wanted to return to data and analytics, which has always been a passion of mine.
That's what eventually led me to Notitia.
What attracted you to Notitia?
I actually heard about Notitia through Guilherme Matte.
When he told me about the company, it reminded me a lot of the organisation I had worked for in Brazil. It had that same feeling of being a close-knit team where people genuinely support each other.
I also spent some time looking through the Notitia website before applying. I noticed the diversity of the team and saw people from different backgrounds and cultures working together. That really stood out to me.
It felt like a place where people enjoyed working together while still doing meaningful and challenging work.
What do you enjoy about working at Notitia?
One of the things I've enjoyed most since joining Notitia is the culture.
Because we're a relatively small team, everyone supports each other and works closely together. There is a strong sense of collaboration and people are always willing to help when you need it.
I also enjoy the flexibility and work-life balance. After working as a chef for several years, being able to spend more time with my family while continuing to grow professionally has been incredibly valuable.
The team is also very diverse, which I really appreciate. Having people from different backgrounds and cultures brings different perspectives and makes it a great environment to work in.
What types of organisations are you working with?
I've had the opportunity to work across a range of industries already.
Some of the projects I've been involved in include healthcare organisations, transport-related projects and commercial businesses. One of the things I enjoy most about consulting is that every client is different and every project gives you the opportunity to learn something new.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Most days start with reviewing my tasks and priorities before jumping into data. A lot of my time is spent writing SQL queries, transforming and organising data, building dashboards and collaborating with clients and the broader Notitia team.
I also spend time in project meetings, kick-off sessions and working through new client requirements. Every day is a little different depending on the project I'm working on.
What are some of the most interesting challenges you've worked on?
One challenge that stands out was from my previous role in a global digital marketing company.
A client needed a way to accurately forecast campaign performance and spending over weekends, but there wasn't an existing solution available. Our team had to quickly research statistical models, test different approaches and build a forecasting solution from scratch.
After a couple of weeks of intensive work, we developed a forecasting model that achieved around 93 per cent accuracy and provided the client with a more reliable way to plan campaign activity.
What made the project particularly rewarding wasn't just the result, but the collaboration involved. Different team members contributed different skills throughout the process, and together we were able to deliver a solution that gave the client the insights they needed.
What do you enjoy most about working with clients?
The learning. Every client operates in a different industry and brings different challenges. One week I might be working with healthcare data and learning new terminology and concepts. Next week I might be working on logistics, finance or operational reporting.
I enjoy the fact that consulting constantly pushes you to learn new things and understand how different organisations work.
One week I joked that I was becoming an expert in logistics because I'd spent so much time working with logistics data. The next week I was building financial dashboards and learning about profit and loss reporting. Every project expands your knowledge in a different way.
That's one of the things I enjoy most about consulting.
What is a common "aha" moment clients have when working with data and analytics?
One of the biggest realisations is often how much time they can save through automation.
Many organisations spend significant time manually preparing reports or gathering information from multiple sources. Once reporting becomes automated and information is easier to access, people quickly realise how much effort can be redirected towards analysis and decision-making.
Another common insight is around data quality. Sometimes organisations discover their data is far more organised than they expected. Other times they realise there are opportunities to improve governance and consistency.
Either way, better visibility creates valuable conversations and helps organisations identify opportunities for improvement.
What excites you most about the future of data and analytics?
The opportunities AI is creating for analytics teams. We're seeing more tools emerge that can help analysts build solutions faster, automate repetitive tasks and uncover insights more efficiently.
AI wont remove the need for people who understand data, context and business problems, but I do think it will become an increasingly valuable tool that helps organisations get more value from their information.
It will be exciting to see how these technologies continue to evolve over the next few years.
What is something people might be surprised to learn about you?
That before joining Notitia, I worked as a chef.
Most people are surprised when they hear I've worked across statistics, working for a digital marketing agency, hospitality and data analytics.
Looking back, each experience taught me something different. Working in kitchens taught me resilience, teamwork and how to perform under pressure. Those skills have been just as valuable in consulting as they were in hospitality.
